A word from one of our Winchester PD champions (This article was published in the Winchester PD News letter)
The PD Programme in Winchester is designed to foster the personal and professional development of teachers, to enhance their teaching effectiveness and the effectiveness of students’ learning. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Head of PD, Mr. Rohan Roberts for his enthralling training sessions.
I am lucky that I enrolled myself for the Cambridge International Certificate for Teachers programme . We, the cohort-2, would wait eagerly for Thursday afternoons just so we could attend these trainings. We were enriched with the practical, theoretical and ICT learning experiences we had in an active learning environment. I wish I could bring back the great time I had with a great team and a great teacher, Mr. Roberts.
But I am thankful that the CPDs we have on Wednesdays are an ongoing process in Winchester. It’s wonderful to be part of the Winchester PD sessions. Teachers gain a lot through attending and conducting the PD sessions. Teachers have immense opportunities in Winchester; it’s the choice of the teacher to be a trainer or a trainee.

I have remarked that Winchester school is a platform for all the teachers who have a keen desire to enhance their teaching skills. I earlier discussed my desire to conduct a PD on Creative Displays and was encouraged enthusiastically. This gave me an opportunity to share my experience and to work with a wider team as there were teachers from both the secondary and primary. In April, I also led a PD for the Transport Department on the etiquettes and responsibilities of the drivers and conductors. This gave me a new experience of working with another department. The next PD I will be leading will be on Purposeful Play to Inspire Learning for the 21st Century Global Society.
It’s not only the teachers but our students too who benefit from these opportunities. Next week we have student-led ICT training for teachers, I am so excited to work with them as a co-facilitator. Winchester has groomed my career. I’m confident that I will continue to learn, explore and create a new spirit for education. - Nirmal Rani
